Harsh Transits and Ruptured Achilles: Why the 49ers Lost

Posted on February 26, 2024August 6, 2025 By cesarlove

The freak injury to 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw during Super Bowl 58 occurred under excesses of Jupiter and Mercury energy as these planets were square to each other and in dangerous aspects to the birthcharts of both the injured player and the San Francisco 49ers.

Injury to Dre Greenlaw Feb. 11, 2024 4:36 pm Las Vegas, Nv.

The injury occurred at 4:36 pm PST on Feb. 11, 2024 in Las Vegas as Jupiter in Taurus was exactly conjunct to the MC. On Super Bowl Sunday, Mercury in transit at 10 degrees Aquarius was square to Jupiter at 8 degrees Taurus. A square between Jupiter and Mercury can cause a brain to short circuit. Mercury and Jupiter both govern mental processes, but they preside over different kinds of intelligences. Mercury is involved in immediate observations and decisions whereas Jupiter is concerned with larger visions and plans. (Lapses occur when Jupiter attempts to absorb information such as oncoming traffic that are better left to Mercury. Similarly, blunders happen when Mercury attempts to comprehend large picture items such as maps and plans, which are Jupiter’s domain.) Greenlaw became injured as he ran onto the field during a change of possession. No player made contact with him, and he mysteriously collapsed. With Jupiter conjunct the MC, the contrary energies of Jupiter and Mercury were very strong at that moment. Perhaps Dre was mentally in conflict of whether to take a small or a big step at that moment. Regardless, he was unable to safely absorb the conflicting energies and information of Jupiter and Mercury and his Achilles tendon ruptured.

Dre Greenlaw May 5, 1997 Conway, Ark. noon chart

Greenlaw’s birthchart shows he was personally experiencing the square of Jupiter and Mercury in a perilous manner. His birthchart contains a natal square of Mercury at 10 Taurus square to Uranus at 9 Aquarius. Sunday’s square of Jupiter and Mercury was imposed as conjunctions upon these natal planets. The transit of Jupiter conjunct his Mercury likely tempted him to extend himself beyond his regular abilities as Jupiter’s tendency is to push beyond normal constraints. Perhaps Jupiter led him to run onto the field awkwardly. However, the transit of Mercury conjunct to his natal Uranus in Aquarius was the most devastating as it manifested in his physical body. The Achilles tendon is ruled by Uranus and the sign of Aquarius. The harsh energy of the square was ultimately absorbed in this Aquarian body part, and his tendon would rupture.

San Francisco 49ers. June 4, 1944 12:22 pm SF. Ca.

The 49ers birthchart contains a conjunction between Mars and Pluto near 7 and 8 degrees of Leo. These planets are anchors of the 49ers defense as Pluto rules the defensive secondary of a football team. The defensive front line, meanwhile, is ruled by the Moon. Dre Greenlaw plays the position of linebacker, which is a hybrid position between the defensive line and the secondary. The linebacker will rush the quarterback along with the front line or assist the secondary with pass protection. The 49ers Mars-Pluto conjunction has a strong link to their Moon in the sign of Scorpio, Both share Scorpio – Pluto energy, which allows for the 49ers defensive line and secondary to intuitively understand each other and work together.

Unfortunately for the 49ers, the injury to Greenlaw also occurred under difficult transits to their Mars and Pluto as well. Mercury, in transit at 10 degrees Aquarius, was opposite to these planets while Jupiter in transit at 8 degrees Taurus was square to them.  Furthermore, the injury proved pivotal to the outcome of the game. With the linebacker’s absence, the 49ers had greater difficulty containing the Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahones. Greenlaw’s injury became the turning point of the game, which the 49ers eventually lost. They were beaten in part because their defense was not able to pressure and contain Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahones in the fourth quarter. Mahones was able to run for key first downs in the Chiefs’ final drives.

Soon after the Super Bowl loss, the 49ers defensive coordinator Steve Wilks was fired. Wilks served the convenient role of scapegoat since the 49ers and their fans need someone to blame. Lineman Nick Bosa chimed in that he felt their defense was unprepared for the zone reads of the Chiefs offense, implying that it was the defensive coach’s fault. But astrology has a deeper version of the 49ers’ Super Bowl loss. Yes, it is important to be coached against the tendencies of an opponent’s offense. But in a high stakes game like the Super Bowl, it is probably more important to react in the moment to events on the field.

Dre Greenlaw is described as “an instinctual player,” one who immediately understands a play as it unfolds. His birthchart includes Sun opposite Pluto, which echoes this description of “instinctual,” as someone with a Pluto opposition is very aware of primal forces at play, especially those coming at one. The abilities of a defensive player are greatly enhanced when one can intuitively anticipate the action before it occurs. Greenlaw’s injury and the opposition transits to the 49ers natal Pluto handcuffed their ability to respond instinctually. Had Greenwall remained healthy, the 49ers Pluto energy would have contained Patrick Mahones.

The 49ers are blaming their Super Bowl loss on a lack of preparation. This is the predictable response from an organization with Virgo Rising, which approaches life methodically and chants the mantra, “Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.” Astrology, however, has a deeper analysis. It was the stifling of their instinctual Pluto energy by the forces of Jupiter and Mercury that beat the 49ers.
